SPARTA Tate Britain Exhibition – Sargent and Fashion

12 MAY 2024

10:30am

Tate Britain

Join SPARTA (St Paul’s Art Association) at the Tate Britain to see the much acclaimed Sargent and Fashion Exhibition.

The Exhibition
The show is a breath-taking collection of Sargent’s paintings, illustrating his virtuosic talent and wet on wet technique.

Born to American parents, Sargent grew up in Florence and studied art in Italy and Paris. Following the scandal created by his portrait of Mme X at the Paris salon (a painting that he considered his masterpiece), he self-exiled to London where he became the painter of the wealthy and powerful. He has been compared to Van Dyck, but also criticised by his contemporaries.
